Mystery of the Missing Dawn...

As many of you know, and have some of you have even emailed me about, I haven't posted in a new blog in a few weeks.  (It's nice to know people are reading the blog!)

I've had the recent "adventure" if you will of a torn retina in my right eye.  I've had two procedures to hopefully correct what was a somewhat substantial sized tear, and a little over two weeks of bedrest... and not fun bedrest, either!

The first procedure involved putting a gas bubble into the eye, and then using a type of cryo-laser to create scar tissue in the eye.  The bubble was supposed to push the retina back into place against the scar tissue and give it something to grab on to.  The big drag, besides having a bubble in your eye which royally messes with your vision, is that you have to hold your head at specific angles to make sure the bubble is in the right place to push the retina back into place.  The first week was spent sitting straight up all day & night, and sometimes getting to lay up to a sixty degree angle towards the left.  Well, that still didn't correct it.  So, I had to spend almost another week laying comletely on my left side with my head at a slight downward angle.  Add to it that our cable was out for a few days and it was a pretty miserable experience.  As if the stress of possibly losing vision in one eye isn't stressful for a photographer is bad enough, the powers that be had to make my cable go on the fritz and miss Heroes!!! HOW WRONG!!!  ... not like I could see anything or work at my computer anyway, but at least I could listen to Heroes... sigh...

Anyway, I digress.  So, after the second session of bedrest I had one more laser treatment which, well.. let's just say it didn't feel good.  But it was bright green like kryptonight...

Well, now I'm off of bed rest, and the gas bubble has finally bid farewell to my little eye.  My eyesight is still pretty distorted, so we'll see what happens.  I have another appointment coming up, and hopefully my eye will have adjusted by then.  If not, well... that's a bridge I'll drive accross with a lot of chocolate when I get to it.

But, as one of my fellow photographers said, "as long as I have one good eye I can still shoot".  And that, my friends, is quite true.  But, I would much rather have two eyes. ;)  But.. I do get to wear an eye patch!

Thanks to everyone for their patience while I was out of commission and contact for three weeks and for all their well-wishes.  While I was pretty scared during a lot of it, especially with how it directly relates to my studio business, the support everyone has offered really did help keep my sanity together.

And now, off to battle the demons of the mountain of work!!!  Ahhh, caffeine is my bestest friend right now.
